The internet is seen as a great new tool to get more business: online lead generation is a key area for business growth.
Business Development managers in all industries know what hard work it is to get new business and generate new leads. Traditionally, this was done through direct mail outs, telemarketing, referrals and networking. Now businesses have another technique to add to the mix: capturing potential customers online.

In contrast, SEO (search engine optimisation) is a long-term strategy that typically takes a minimum of 6 months to show results. While this can be perceived as a disadvantage, it can give the business owners and operational team time to prepare the right resources to meet an increase in demand. The advantage of SEO is that it is highly leveraged. Although you have a set budget, the longer your SEO campaign continues, the better your results will get. In effect a good SEO campaign will create an online lead generation machine that delivers leads day in, day out for the life of your business.
For the best results, SEO and PPC can work together. For example starting with a PPC campaign lets you get an immediate increase in leads. Also the statistics you collect on keywords and traffic numbers can be used in the long-term SEO strategy. When the results of the SEO campaign start to kick in, the budget can slowly be re-directed to SEO as it is more leveraged and can therefore has a lower the cost per lead.
What is most important to keep in mind for your online lead generation is to focus on a positive return on investment (ROI), no matter which technique you decide to use.
