Cheap SEO Services - Are They Worth It?

Cheap SEO Services - Are They Worth It?

By Janna Jungclaus

There is not question that the importance of the internet for business is increasing. Not only is it generally cheap and easy to communicate, it also improves the sales and marketing process of many business. As with all services, cheap SEO services are popping up everywhere. But can they really deliver what they promise at such a cheap price point?

By way of background, SEO, short for search engine optimisation, is the manipulation of website rankings to show a certain website in the first position, or on the first page of Google. SEO campaigns typically take between 6-12 months to show results and clients are sometimes required to sign long-term contracts.

While the cost of SEO remains a point of debate, there can be cases made to use both cheap SEO services and expensive SEO.

Here are four questions you can ask yourself to decide which one is right for you.

  1. How much will your profit be?

Most importantly your SEO and marketing investments depend on how much your profit is likely to be. After all, if you can spend $1 and make $2, wouldn't you do it? So setting your budget for SEO should start with a calculation of your profits.

  2. How well set-up is your website?

If you're website is already set-up with SEO in mind, the regular off-page SEO that is required will be much more effective and can potentially be delivered at a lower price point. Your website set up should include: website structure and silo-ing, on-page optimisation, internal linking structure, and design and copywriting elements to increase conversions.

  3. How competitive is your market?

The more competitive your market is, the more time, and therefore money is required to achieve your goal and outrank your competitor. If your market is highly competitive and you know you won't be able to out-spend the competition, you may want to focus on a niche target market that can bring good results.

  4. How much research is required?

How much do you know already about your target audience? Demographics, browsing habits, spending habits, etc? What keywords are they likely to use when searching for your business? And how difficult is it to rank for those keywords? Proper research can make or break an SEO campaign, so it's not the place to be cheap.

When choosing whether to use cheap SEO services or a more expensive option, it is most important not just to focus on price, but on your expected return on investment (ROI).
